Hope everyone is enjoying their spring break, and coming back strong for the second half of this semester????. To help you with that, we have some great events coming up next week that you cannot miss out!

 

Announcements & Upcoming Events:

 
Latin Dance Workshop
    • Date: Monday, March 19th

 

    • Time & Location: 7:00PM – 9:00PM, SAC Auditorium

 

    • Learn how to dance merengue, bachata, and salsa.???????? You don’t have to be an expert or know anything at all, we will all learn and teach you the basic steps. Just come a have fun with the SHPE community!

 

    • This event is taking place at the same time we have our general meetings so for that day our meeting will be at the SAC Auditorium and bring your friends too so they can learn more about the Hispanic culture 🙂

 

  • Refreshments will be provided.
Project Management & Entrepreneur Workshop
    • Date: Wednesday, March 21st

 

    • Time & Location: 7:00PM – 9:00PM, SSO 122

 

    • This is a great opportunity to learn about project management and entrepreneurship skills, highly recommended in the work field. Professors experts in the area will present and teach you the basic concepts.

 

  • Food & refreshments will be provided.
Noche de Ciencias
    • This year will have two Noches: Longwood and Brentwood High Schools, on April 11th and 18th, respectively, and if you are interested in volunteering or be part of one of the committees for this big events, make sure to come to our general body meetings or send us an email to sbshpe@gmail.com so we can provide you with all the information about the event.

 

  • Great opportunity to be involved with SHPE, develop your leadership skill while contributing to the community and something to include in your resume, so keep that in mind. ????
ATTENTION SENIORS ~ Ordering Graduation Stoles
    • For all graduating seniors in spring 2018, graduation stole orders are open TODAY until April 15th.

 

    • Before ordering, you need to be a paid and active SHPE member for at least one year, your graduation date is updated on SHPEConnect and have your SHPE ID ready!

Engineering Ball
    • Date: April 5th

 

    • Time & Location: 7:00PM-10:00PM, Flowerfield in St. James, NY

 

    • Tickets for Engineering Ball are currently on sale in the CEAS Undergraduate Student Office,

      room 231 Engineering Bldg, Mon – Fri from 10 am to 4 pm.

       

 

  • If you are planning to buy your ticket, they are at the regular student price which is

     $30 until sold out.

    SHPE tables are 22 and 18, so you can pick those to share with shpeito members!

Opportunities:
 
Quantitative Analysis 101 @ Citi event
    • Application Deadline: March 16th. (TODAY)

 

    • This is an event for those who want to learn more about our Quantitative Analysis Summer Analyst Program at Citi. 

 

    • Those selected will be invited to meet with Citi professionals who be discussing our Quantitative Analysis Program. They will go over the specific businesses included in the program, recruiting timeline, interview techniques, and tips on how best to prepare for the upcoming recruiting season.

 

    • This opportunity is available to undergraduate students, graduating between Winter 2019 and Spring 2020. Students should apply if they are looking for Summer 2019 internship opportunities.

Goldman Sachs Summer Analyst Internship
    • Application Deadline: March 18th (SUNDAY)

 

    • Goldman Sachs is looking for Juniors (graduating in spring 2019) majoring in Computer Science, Engineering and Information Technology with at least a 3.0 GPA for an Analyst position this summer 2018.

Women in STEM Night @NY Hall of Science
  • Date: Friday, March 23rd 
  • Time & Location: 5:30PM-8:00PM at NY Hall of Science, Corona, NY
  • The New York Hall of Science STEM Nights are geared towards underserved high school and college students, aiming to introduce them to different STEM career fields. The theme for this event is “Women in STEM”. The evening will highlight inspiring women in various STEM fields. SHPE will host an information table where students will have an opportunity to meet SHPE members and learn more about STEM careers.
  • They are looking for volunteers to help inspire the next generation of Engineers and Technologists. Two SHPE Latinas are needed to speak during the event. For more information and to sign up email us at info@shpe-nyc.org
Advance Interview Summer Prep

CodePath.org has launched a free new summer course: Advanced Interview Prep. It covers the fundamentals of the coding interview and includes live lectures from instructors, mentors, and mock interview.
      • When: 12-week course, 4 hours weekly lectures (June 4th start)

      • Who: College students (sophomores and up)

Life SciNYC internship program
    • if you are an NYC-based undergraduate or graduate student looking for a summer 2018 internship in life sciences, this is the opportunity for you

 

 

  • Applications are due March 31st.
Summer Research Position – Project Developing Software 
    • This is an opportunity for members of the SBU LSAMP Program in Computer Science.

 

    • The strongest applicants will have some experience with the following languages: PHP, MySQL, JAVA, Script, and HTML5.

 

    • Dates: June – August 2018

 

    • There are 3-4 positions available and a stipend of $4,500 for 10 weeks approximately 30 hrs per week.
