Just a throwback from our last year’s Alumni BBQ ????

Hello hello,


Hope everyone is doing well, I would like to congratulate those who are part of the new E-board for next year! ???????? Also, thank you to those who came and support, especially to those who ran for a position, all the speeches were great,???????? remember that there will be more opportunities to contribute with SHPE in the future, stay tuned and keep being as active as you are right now 😀

Announcements & Upcoming Events:


Spring Retreat
  • Date & Time: Saturday, April 7th from 9AM-2PM (TOMORROW)
  • This is a great opportunity to bond with SHPEitos and participate in team building activities as well as building up leadership skills. The event will be outdoors and will have lunch provided.
  • If you are part of the new E-Board, this event is MANDATORY, and if you are planning on being part of E-board or getting an Extended E-board position for next year, we HIGHLY recommend this event! 
  • We will have Cindy Leiton & Giampolo Rivera as our guest speaker.
  • We will be meeting at 8:45 am in the SAC lobby!

Project Management & Entrepreneur Workshop


  • Date: Tuesday, April 17th
  • Time & Location: 7:00PM – 9:00PM, SSO 122
  • This is a great opportunity to learn about project management and entrepreneurship skills, highly recommended in the work field. Professors experts in the area will present and teach you the basic concepts.
  • Food & refreshments will be provided.
Noche de Ciencias
  • This year will have two Noches: Longwood and Brentwood High Schools, on April 11th and 18th, respectively, from 7PM to 9PM. (Longwood is coming up this Wednesday!)
  • We will have volunteering and project committees, so if you are still interested in being part of any of them and contribute to this big event you can complete the following Google form: https://goo.gl/forms/D3KR4IDEZ4KAcDaC3.
  • We will have a training session this Monday 4/9 @ 7PM for those who are volunteering for the event so make sure to come!
  • Great opportunity to be involved with SHPE, develop your leadership skill while contributing to the community and something to include in your resume, so keep that in mind. ????
Alumni BBQ
  • Date & Time: Saturday, April 28th, TBD.
  • Location: Sunken Meadows Park, 1 Sunken Meadow Pkwy, Kings Park, NY 11754
  • Come out and enjoy delicious grilled burgers and hot dogs while having the opportunity to connect and network with SHPE alumni! We will have great activities (potentially a water balloon fight if the weather helps ????) just mark this day on your calendars 😉

ATTENTION SENIORS ~ Ordering Graduation Stoles
  • For all graduating seniors in spring 2018, graduation stole orders are open until April 15th.
  • Before ordering, you need to be a paid and active SHPE member for at least one year, your graduation date is updated on SHPEConnect and have your SHPE ID ready!
  • To order check on the tab “Graduation Stoles” on the SHPE connect home page and submit your order request.

AIAA Diversity Scholars Program
  • the AIAA Diversity Scholars Program that is providing opportunities for underrepresented university students pursuing a degree in aerospace to attend the AIAA AVIATION Forum being held in Atlanta, June 25-29, 2018
  • Forum registration fee, travel, and hotel costs will be covered. 
  • AIAA membership and U.S. citizenship are not required to apply.
  • Deadline to apply: April 8th

Summer Research Position – Project Developing Software 
  • This is an opportunity for members of the SBU LSAMP Program in Computer Science.
  • The strongest applicants will have some experience with the following languages: PHP, MySQL, JAVA, Script, and HTML5.
  • Dates: June – August 2018
  • There are 3-4 positions available and a stipend of $4,500 for 10 weeks approximately 30 hrs per week.
